Most
of the rolling used on my layouts are modified RTR (Ready To Run) items from
various manufacturers, Hornby, Bachmann, Dapol etc.or kit built items from
Coopercraft, Ratio or Parkside Dundas The
brief description next to each picture describes some of the modifications to
each item and how I built or modified them. |
|
British
Railways Conflat A This
started out as a Bachmann RTR item. Modifications included replacing the
tension lock couplings for screw type, Vacuum pipes, and load retaining
chains with turnbuckles. A light
weathering with enamels finished the job. |
|
Ex
GWR shockvan. A
Bachmann RTR wagon. Instanter couplings replace the original Bachmann tension
locks and Vacuum pipes have been fitted. A light weathering with a mix of
acrylics and enamels to finish. |

|
British
Railways Cattle wagon. This
model is a Coopercraft kit of a GWR cattle wagon. It has been modified to
represent the later built BR examples with top side doors. Screw link
couplings are fitted as well as axle box tie rods etc. The
transfers are produced by model master intended for use on the Dapol (ex
Airfix) plastic kit. |

|
Ex
Great Western Railway Gunpowder Vans No
Cambrian layout should be without these vans. Built
from Ratio Kits with 3 link couplings etc. The weathering was one of my first
attempts at the “black art” After
an “accident” the buffers on the nearest van were replaced by white metal
cast types. |

|
British
Railways 3 plank open. (Fitted) This
model was built up from bits found in my “junk box” It’s a Mainline body on a Bachmann chassis. I have added
Vacuum pipes and screw couplings. The timber load is made from off cuts of
wood from a building project and the “ropes” are fom a Ratio signal operating
kit. |
|
British
Railways Shock open wagons. Originally
Bachmann RTR items these wagons have been modified by adding Screw couplings,
Vacuum pipes, and some “delicate” loads. The
left hand wagon has a Glazed clay pipe load, suitably packed in straw (sisal
string!) whilst the right hand wagon has crates of glass or other fragile
goods. |
|
British
Railways Van Wide. Built
from a Parkside Dundas Kit with Instanter couplings, wire vacuum pipes and
Modelmaster transfers. Weathered and Blue circle cement poster added. |
